Care for your little luxury
A few simple habits help you enjoy your candle beautifully, from the first light to the last safe burn.
Before you light
- Always follow the care label supplied with your candle.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Keep away from children, pets, draughts and anything that can catch fire.
- Use a stable, heat-resistant surface. Let wax and vessels cool before touching or moving them.
Container candles
1. Trim the wick
Before each burn, trim the cooled wick to approximately 5mm and remove loose trimmings or debris from the wax. If your candle’s label gives different instructions, follow those.
2. Give the first burn time
On the first burn, aim for an even melt pool across the surface to help reduce tunnelling. Do not exceed the maximum burn time on the care label while waiting for the wax to reach the edges.
3. Keep each burn controlled
Burn for no more than 3–4 hours at a time, or for the shorter time specified on your candle’s label. If the flame becomes unusually large, flickers excessively or produces smoke, extinguish it. Allow the candle to cool and trim the wick before relighting.
4. Know when to stop
Stop using a container candle when approximately 1cm of wax remains, or earlier if directed on its label. Do not burn the vessel dry or continue using a cracked or damaged container.
Sculptural & pillar candles
Our decorative candles can be enjoyed as display pieces. If you choose to light one, place it upright on a fire-safe, heat-resistant tray with a raised edge and enough room to catch melted wax.
Sculptural shapes may melt and drip unevenly. Keep the candle within sight throughout use and follow its individual care label. The container-candle melt-pool guidance above does not apply to free-standing shapes.
Extinguishing & storing
- Use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame gently.
- Never use water to extinguish a candle.
- Allow the wax to set and the vessel to cool completely before moving it or replacing its lid.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat, particularly during Perth’s warmer months.
A second life for your vessel
Once the candle has reached the end of its safe burning life, let it cool completely. Remove the remaining wax gently and dispose of it in the bin, not down the sink. Clean a suitable vessel with warm, soapy water without sudden temperature changes.
Reuse it as a decorative piece, or contact us to ask whether it is suitable for refilling. Do not refill or relight a damaged vessel.
